Shanghai Peace Hotel

Is the 3,000+ RMB per night stay at Peace Hotel worth it? 📺 Perhaps influenced by TV dramas, I've always had a fascination with Peace Hotel, yearning to experience the historical charm of old Shanghai. Though some facilities show their age, for a hotel opened in 1929, the maintenance across all aspects is truly commendable. (P1, P2) 💰 Peace Hotel houses its own museum (P3). While small, it offers four daily guided tours at 10 AM, 11 AM, 2 PM, and 4 PM, chronicling its century-long history—definitely worth attending. Built in the 1930s and designated as a cultural relic in 1996, its historical restoration cost 680 million RMB. Many areas of the hotel are themselves historical artifacts, so you're staying in a museum, not just a hotel! (P4) 🌇 We chose a city-view room overlooking Nanjing Road. The service was impeccable, with all staff being exceptionally warm and helpful. From check-in, they assisted with luggage all the way to the room, even arranging items in the closet and sharing the room's history—like how the TV cabinet was originally an old Shanghai bookcase. (P5) 🥮 Coinciding with Mid-Autumn Festival, our room came with mooncakes and a fruit platter. Turning on the TV, we were delightfully surprised to see our names displayed on the screen. (P6, P7) 🥣 Breakfast was another highlight—children under six eat for free, a great perk for taller kids! The spread was diverse, featuring my favorite salmon, and the coffee was served by attentive staff. (P8, P9) 🍰 On the first floor, Victor's Deli offers limited seating (be prepared to wait). We tried their chocolate and yuzu cakes—a bit too sweet for my taste and slightly pricey with the service charge, but still a nice experience.
