The Ancient Town of Sijing: A Thousand Years of History and Culture

Sijing Ancient Town, located in Sijing Town, Songjiang District, Shanghai, spans an area of approximately 15.52 hectares. With a history of over a thousand years, its origins can be traced back to the Yuan Dynasty. It has long been celebrated as "the foremost among the eighteen towns east of the county." Sijing Ancient Town boasts a rich historical and cultural heritage. Situated at the confluence of four waterways—Bojing, Waipojing, Dongjing, and Zhangjing—it became a hub for canal transportation. By the Ming Dynasty, it was already a major grain distribution center in Songjiang. During the late Qing Dynasty, the town flourished with bustling markets and crisscrossing streets. The town is home to numerous historical buildings, including the former residences of Shi Liangcai and Ma Xiangbo, as well as the Sijing Three Residences.
