Come and see the 120th Anniversary Edition of the stage play "The Cherry Orchard" this weekend, directed by Tuminas and starring Jin Xing, recreating Chekhov's century-old classic, with upgraded stage design, creating a feast of visual and artistic enjoyment! In a world ravaged by war and disease, a train brings back the mistress of the cherry orchard after five years, but she is burdened with debt and has to auction off her beloved home. The cherry orchard is eventually acquired by the son of a former serf, now a businessman. The fall of the old aristocracy and the rise of the capitalists mark the end of an era, just like the cherry trees that have been cut down, leaving people sighing! It was my first time seeing Jin Xing's play live, and I have to say it was really wonderful. Every action and line was highly recognizable, from the joy of returning to the cherry orchard, the despair of losing a child, the passion and longing for love, to the nameless sorrow of losing a home. The emotional transitions were very well done! The veteran actors in the play were also outstanding. I was pleasantly surprised to see Hou Yong playing the eternal student, with his unruly performance, and Zu Yongchen playing the businessman, with his triumphant outburst. This is a tragedy full of black humor, filled with the cries of the times! Life is about to end, but I feel like I haven't lived yet!
