Huang Family Garden Site

Guilin Park was originally called "Huang's Garden". It was the private garden villa of Huang Jinrong, the chief inspector of the French Concession Police Station in old Shanghai. It was built in 1931. In 1934, Guilin Park was completed. In 1953, Huangjia Garden was nationalized. On May 29, 1957, according to the approval of Shanghai Municipal Urban Planning and Construction Administration, Huang Family Garden was designated as a park by Shanghai Municipal Garden Administration. The park is a modern architectural structure with the Chinese classical garden style, featuring sweet osmanthus. The buildings in the garden adopt the traditional landscaping techniques of Jiangnan classical gardens, and the layout is exquisite and unique. The garden features flowing water under small bridges, towering mountains, shaded pavilions, staggered terraces, and lush flowers and trees. The building is three-dimensional on a central axis. The Nine-Curve Corridor is located in the middle of the axis, with the four-sided hall (originally called the Four Teaching Halls) in the south of the corridor and the Jingguan Pavilion in the north facing each other symmetrically. The Guanyin Pavilion and Prajna Boat in the east of the corridor echo the Guandi Temple and Yiting in the west of the corridor. The park has a coordinated overall layout and bright architectural style. Each building is set off by the smaller buildings next to it, forming a perfectly unified architectural art group.
