The most charming road in Shanghai - Madang Road

🌈Commencing from Jinling West Road in the north and extending to Xujiahui Road in the south, Ma Dang Road was once a tranquil avenue, characterized by its serene lanes and alleys. However, with the emergence of numerous shopping malls and its proximity to Xintiandi, Ma Dang Road has undergone a remarkable transformation, evolving into a fashionable district. 🌈Located at No. 40 Ma Dang Road is Shangxian Fang (Figures 9️⃣🔟), a Shikumen-style building constructed in 1924. Named after the foreign academic group Shangxian Hall, the building exhibits an Art Nouveau style with a symmetrical facade adorned with simplified Baroque decorations. This location was once the stage for the passionate love story between Yu Dafu and Wang Yingxia. 🌈Opposite Shangxian Fang stands a red-brick edifice (Figure end), built in 1909 in a Neoclassical style. Initially serving as the Board of Directors building, it was later converted into Bile Middle School, and in 1998, it was remodeled into the podium of Zhonghuan Plaza. 🌈No. 4 Puqing Lane, Ma Dang Road, was originally the office of the "Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea". Established in Shanghai in 1926 by exiled Korean patriots, it is now open to the public. 🌈Nestled in Lane 458, Ma Dang Road is the Everbright Xuhui Tiandi (Figures 6️⃣7️⃣), designed by Jean Nouvel, a Pritzker Architecture Prize laureate and a French architect. This is his first project in China. The audacious Danxia red inner street, panoramic skylight roof, and approximately 2,500 flower pots for three-dimensional greening, all contribute to the mall's wonderfully crafted spatial dimensionality. #thingstodoshanghai
