Shamei is as mysterious and beautiful as its name

▪️The history of the building can be traced back to 1918, when it was designed and built by British merchant Tong and Yanghang and comprador Ying Ziyun for French businessman Solomon Shamei. The building was completed in 1921 and is a typical Renaissance-style classical European building. It served as the office location for Shamei Foreign Firm, Shanghai Trust and other institutions, and was later used for residential housing and corporate offices. The building has witnessed the prosperity and changes of Shanghai, as well as the vicissitudes of modern Chinese history. ▪️In terms of architecture, the exterior is made of dark gray stone, exuding a calm and solemn atmosphere. The tower, door eyebrows, window coffins and other places have adopted Baroque-style multi-curve carvings.
