Malaysia Visa-Free | 7 Days 6 Nights Off-the-Beaten-Path Itinerary Guide
Just got back from Malaysia, took an unusual off-the-beaten-path route, traveling north from Malacca to Penang, exploring and wandering along the way. Besides the cities with Southeast Asian charm, there was also the freedom of durian orchards. This visa-free country is really too tempting. Sharing a less-traveled route suitable for the whole family.
·
D1: Shanghai - Kuala Lumpur - Malacca
D2: Malacca - Broga Orchard Hill (Durian Orchard) - Kuala Lumpur
D3: Batu Caves - Ipoh Sunway Lost World of Tambun - Ipoh
D4: Ipoh - Taiping Lake Gardens - Kuala Kurau - Penang
D5: Penang Day Tour
D6: Penang - Kuala Lumpur
D7: Kuala Lumpur - Sepang HL Dragon Fruit Farm - Kuala Lumpur Airport - Shanghai
·
Penang:
Compared to Kuala Lumpur, I prefer the world heritage site of Penang, which features a mix of Southeast Asian, Muslim, Chinese, and Indian architecture. The strong cultural atmosphere, interesting graffiti in the alleys, and the dazzling markets are all reasons why I like this old city. Although there are quite a few Michelin-starred restaurants in Penang, I still recommend saving some room in your stomach for the night market snacks!
Malacca:
Also a world heritage site, Malacca is a bit more colorful. After visiting the Baba-Nyonya Heritage Museum, I finally understood the origins of the Peranakans and learned more about the history of Zheng He's voyages to the Western Seas.
Ipoh:
Malaysia's little Guilin, a small town in the mountains, with lots of delicious food. Saw a Malayan tapir at the Sunway Lost World of Tambun in Ipoh! So cute~
Must Eat Durian:
How can you come to Malaysia and not eat durian! The durians in Kuala Lumpur, the dragon fruits in Sepang, and the pomelos in Ipoh are all delicacies not to be missed~
Tips:
1. Malaysia is visa-free, with no time difference from China, and flights to Kuala Lumpur are very convenient.
2. There are super many wild animals, hornbills and monkeys can be seen in the parks. Please do not feed them randomly to protect the ecology.

Batu Caves
#malaysia
Located just a few minutes walk from the Batu Caves KTM station, Batu Caves is known for the gigantic Lord Murugan statue and the colourful 272 steps up to the cave and temple.
There were not a lot of people when we went around 8am in the morning. The weather is also not so hot, making the climb a bit easier. The cave is quite big and you can go up further to access another area of the cave.
There are also a lot of monkeys around the bottom of the cave but quite a number of the monkeys climbed up when we were going down from the cave.

Kuala Lumpur International Airport Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Jun)
KLIA arrival food
#kualalumpur super budget lunch/dinner at the airport. Arrived quite late in the afternoon, I haven't had any meal yet so decided to eat at airport before heading out. Chance upon this local food stall where I saw many sit down here either to drink coffee or for a meal.
Turn out to be very affordable meal indeed. For the price of less than RM 15, I get my nasi lemak and huge cup of coffee. I love how generous they are in the portion.
If you need quick lunch/dinner fix, do head on to this place!

Starbucks @ KLIA 1
#wheretogo for a good coffee & meal in Terminal 1 Kuala Lumpur International Airport. It's quite hidden behind but you will know there's starbucks if your eyes is sharp enough.
Like a real cafe setting, this place is nicely decorated and there is a section where we can see parked airplane.
Price of the food and beverages here is pretty standard. I got mac & cheese for RM 21.95 (SG $6+), not bad. Taste like the one in Singapore 7 eleven.

Weekend spend with family
Spending time on the weekend with family is one of the best ways to spend your week. Kuala Lumpur and the surrounding area are overflowing with interesting places to do fun and healthy activities.
Although there are many theme parks and outdoor activities to do in Kuala Lumpur, for us, nothing compares to the experience of visiting Zoo Negara with your whole family.
Zoo Negara places great emphasis on convenience for those who visit. There are various facilities for families at Zoo Negara such as lockers available at the ticket counter. The rental fee is RM2 for each locker.

Sunway Lagoon Theme Park Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Jun)
Fun & Thrill at Sunway Lagoon
#malaysiatrip
Feeling like a kid again while in sunway. With 6 themes such water park, Xpark, Scream park, Wildlife park, Amusement park, & Sunway Lost Lagoon, each of it has it’s own character that you should explore. I especially love the scream park and the xpark as I am both adventerous and like to see to which limit I’ll go to challenge myself. In the weekend, it can be pricey up to Rm170 (standard ticket). I have to rent a locker for my stuff as I need more items prepared for the water park. Rent of locker for luggage are up to Rm50 and the standard one is Rm25. Waiting for each games can be longer than 30 minutes especially in the weekend.

Are you going to sunway Lagoon Theme Park to play? Don't miss the opportunity to stay in this hotel. It's the best theme park hotel for me. This hotel is under the Sunway Group. Although it has been there for many years, the hotel is still maintained very well. The famous Gordon Ramsay restaurant is also in this hotel. If your budget is limited, you can also prefer to stay at Sunway Pyramid Hotel or Sunway Lagoon Hotel. Both are very good and with Sunway Lagoon Theme Park view, besides, these all hotels are linked to Sunway Pyramid shopping mall.
