Doi Mon Chong

Doi Mon Chong is located on the central Thanon Thong Chai mountain range, covering the areas of Omkoi District, Chiang Mai Province and Sam Ngao District, Tak Province. The word “Mon” is a northern dialect word meaning “mountain or hill.” The word “Chong” is pronounced as “Chong” in the northern dialect, meaning “the highest triangular gable.” This name is based on the topography of the mountain and the steep cliffs. The geological condition of this mountain is a mixture of limestone, sandstone, shell, and granite, which makes this mountain look amazing. The eastern shoulder of the mountain gradually slopes down and is covered with dense rainforest. The western side is a steep, dark cliff. Looking far away along the narrow ridge that runs along the shoulder of the cliff in a terrifying manner to the south, you will see the peak of Doi Mon Chong, which looks like a lion’s head, standing out prominently and formidably. Doi Hua Sing is the highest point, approximately 1,929 meters above sea level. Doi Mon Chong is considered a land of animals that live freely, such as goral or divine horses and goral, which are 2 of the 15 protected wild animals in Thailand, as well as herds of wild elephants and "thousand-year rose", which is said to be the largest thousand-year rose tree in Thailand.
