You can charter a car from Mangshi to Ruili and back in one day. The whole journey takes just over an hour on the highway. The scenery is better on the Mangshi-Ruili Avenue. We were lucky. The rainy season has cooled the temperature down recently, and it stopped raining when we were out, so we didn't get wet or hot. 🌻 One Village, Two Countries This is an old attraction. It's worth a visit, but there's not much to do. It's a great place for photos. The barbed wire fence is the border with Myanmar. 🌻 Guanyin Temple We happened to see some Dai girls listening to the Dharma in the temple. According to Dai tradition, during the three months from the Khao Phansa Festival to the Ok Phansa Festival, people are not allowed to fall in love, get married, or build houses. This is known as the "Closed Door Festival" and "Open Door Festival". 🌻 Maoxiang Road This is the road you pass after leaving Guanyin Temple. The shops on this road don't even have Chinese characters on them. It's like being in Myanmar. 🌻 Zongfo Temple There was a monk giving a sermon on the second floor. It was very peaceful. There was a sign at the entrance saying "No tourists allowed". The Dai Palace is opposite, but it's still under construction, so we didn't go up. 🌻 Bangbeng Village, Mengmao Town This was a pleasant surprise on the way to Zongfo Temple. It's a small, exquisite Dai village with a temple and sculptures in the style of Theravada Buddhism. There is a bilingual radio broadcast in Chinese and Dai. At dusk, it can feel like a mysterious Southeast Asian horror movie. 🌻 Jiegao Port A classic check-in point. There are shops selling Myanmar and Thai specialties nearby. 🌻 Bahu Coffee The decor and menu are interesting. We ordered the Three Seconds (a special blend of oil orange, jasmine, and oolong) and the coconut latte. The latter was surprisingly good, very fragrant and not too sweet. 🌻 Akkao's Hand Grasp Rice This is a famous Jingpo hand grasp rice restaurant. The food was okay, but unfortunately, we didn't get to try the avocado juice that netizens rave about. The waitress had thanaka powder on her face, which is a feature of Myanmar and Ruili. It's said to be cooling and good for acne.
