48 Hours In Rotorua, Lakeside Bliss In New Zealand. Retirement Vibes!

Rotorua is an adorable little lakeside town in the north island of New Zealand, we stopped off for 48 hours on our roadtrip around the island. The town feels like an old school American town with tree lined streets full of little shops with awnings, it has very laidback atmosphere and reminds me of island life in the Caribbean isles. We stayed in an air b&b in the suburbs but walked into town each day, the walk is quick and the roads are relatively quiet. The town itself is great for a few days to recharge, lots of cafes and gift shops along with a beautifully laid out central area with street art and art installations. In the summer evening the prominent venues are lit up and the ‘eating street’ is a bustling row of restaurants with lots of choice! We stopped off for desert and had incredible ice cream and brownies a Lady Jane Ice Cream parlour. Just outside town there’s an amazing place called the secret spot, a small cafe with spa baths for your feet. There’s no charge for the spa baths at the table, just pay for a coffee and get comfortable! A highlight for me was all the vintage and charity shops, so many bargains and an amazing range of vintage books and music. Well worth a look!
