Visiting Rome's Jewish Quarter – A Tragedy of World War II

Rome's Jewish Quarter is one of the oldest in Europe, established in 1555 by Pope Paul IV. At that time, Jews were confined to live within this small area and faced severe exploitation. They were not allowed to own real estate or engage in skilled labor. During World War II in 1943, over a thousand were taken to concentration camps. Walking through the Jewish Quarter, one can notice small metal plaques on the ground commemorating the captured Jews.
