Rio's Imprint - Christ the Redeemer

Take a train to the iconic Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro, and be amazed by its grandeur. The statue stands tall on the top of Corcovado Mountain, and was built to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Brazil's independence. At this moment, Jesus opens his arms to embrace the vast Atlantic Ocean, and looks down at the beautiful panorama of Rio de Janeiro, expressing the spirit of love and appreciation for independence. Standing in front of the statue, you can see the 16 km long Niterói Bridge (Figure 4). Rio de Janeiro Port is one of the world's three largest natural harbors (along with Victoria Harbor in Hong Kong and San Francisco Bay in the United States). From Corcovado Mountain, you can also overlook Sugarloaf Mountain, another symbol of Rio (Figure 5).
