The Acropolis of Lindos The Acropolis of Lindos on the island of Rhodes, a remnant of beauty from 400 BC During the Classical period, the Acropolis of Lindos was dominated by the massive Temple of Athena Lindia, and the scale of the citadel continued to grow throughout the Greek and Roman eras. During the Byzantine period, a church was added to the citadel. In the 14th century, the Knights Hospitaller built a large fortress on the citadel and reinforced the walls. During the Ottoman Turkish period, the citadel gradually fell into disrepair until it was restored in modern times by Danish, Italian, and Greek archaeologists. It includes several ruins: the Temple of Athena Lindia, the remains of the citadel gates and colonnades, Roman temple ruins, Byzantine church ruins, the entrance gate of the citadel, and the view of the citadel from St. Paul's Bay.
