2025.11.17 Badaguan is located on the southern slope of Taiping Mountain, bordered by Huiquan Bay to the west and Taiping Bay to the south, covering an area of about 666,000 square meters. Its name originates from the roads initially named after eight ancient Chinese Great Wall passes in the area (such as Shaoguan Road, Juyongguan Road, etc.), later expanding to ten roads, now collectively known as the district. There are over 300 villas remaining, featuring architectural styles from more than 20 countries including Russia, England, France, Germany, and Denmark, earning it the title of "Museum of International Architecture." Representative buildings include: Huashilou: A European castle-style villa with a rooftop sea view. Located at the southern tip of the Badaguan scenic area, backed by Badaguan, it was built in 1930, funded by Russian businessman Laibichi and designed by Chinese architect Liu Yaochen. It is a European castle-style building that combines Gothic, Greek, Roman, and other Western architectural styles. Its exterior walls are built with granite and cobblestones, and the interior decoration features talc inlays and stained glass. The overall shape is solemn and elegant, with a battlement-style parapet on the tower top, showing distinct medieval castle characteristics. The name "Huashilou" comes from a pun on its stone decorations; it was originally called "Huashilou" (Talc Building). Historically, Huashilou served as a villa and hotel, hosting many celebrities such as Chiang Kai-shek and Chen Yi, and is also known as the "Chiang Kai-shek Residence." After the founding of the People's Republic of China, it was once used as a state guesthouse for foreign dignitaries. It is now a museum open to the public, preserving some historical layouts inside and featuring exhibition halls showcasing its architectural details and related history…🍀 Princess Building: A Danish fairy tale-style building, said to have been built by a Danish prince.
