It is not only an outstanding example of architectural art, but also a witness to history, carrying a deep cultural heritage. From an architectural perspective, this museum is the largest single villa building in China, a prominent landmark of German architectural art in China, and a symbol of multiculturalism in Qingdao. It integrates various cultural concepts from both the East and the West. Mr. Liang Sicheng once praised it as a masterpiece of architectural art that combines various cultural concepts from both the East and the West. From a historical perspective, it is directly or indirectly related to many important historical figures and events. It has served as the residence of the German governor, the commander of the Japanese garrison in Qingdao, and the mayor of Qingdao during the Kuomintang era, witnessing the changes in Qingdao during different historical periods. Many historical figures, including Chairman Mao, Vice Premier Chen Yun, Soong Mei-ling, Chiang Ching-kuo, Lin Biao, Vietnamese leader Ho Chi Minh, Albanian leader Mehmet Shehu, Cambodian Prince Norodom Sihanouk, and German Prince Heinrich, have stayed here. The museum has many highlights worth noting: The Steinway piano in the second-floor room, made in 1876, is a top brand of piano with keys made entirely of ivory, exuding luxury and preciousness. The conservatory is a representative of the highest level of craftsmanship during the early 20th-century industrial revolution. The dome building with steel structure glass walls has excellent indoor lighting, bright and warm, in stark contrast to the slightly darker building, making it a "highlight" of the entire building. The crystal chandelier in the banquet hall—music hall is exquisitely designed and impressive. On the semi-basement floor, there is a room called "Dragon's Lair," where a small glass window allows us to see the mysterious world beneath the castle. There is also the general's chair, one of the world's three famous stone chairs, in the courtyard. The governor once commanded the army here, and now, as tourists, we can also sit and experience the governor's majesty and power at that time. The Former German Governor's Residence Museum is definitely the most worthwhile building to visit in Qingdao, without a doubt.
