The beautiful Ponale

The road around Lake Garda’s western boundary and its tunnels are stunning enough and were of course used for the James Bond film mThe quantum of Solace’ however, the original road may be even better. The now converted road which is shared between hikers and mountain bikers starts at Riva del Garda and clings to the cliff as it climbs in altitude. As you pass through tunnels built in 19th alongside defensive buildings, built during the First World War you don’t only get the sense of the beauty of nature here but also its importance historically. Once you have travelled around 3km you can either turn back or carry on towards either the village of pregasina or cut away from Lake Garda towards lake ledro and it’s beautiful valley #100waysoftravel
