Tumpak Sewu Waterfall
Volcano and waterfall in one frame, I went to Indonesia for this photo
Sewu Waterfall in East Java, Indonesia, is indeed one of the most stunning waterfalls. 'Sewu' in Javanese means thousand-layer waterfall. These waterfalls thunderously plunge into a horseshoe-shaped jungle canyon, looking as if they fell into Jurassic Park!
-
🚩Best experience:
▪️Sewu Waterfall Viewing Platform
There are two levels, the second level offers a better angle to overlook the waterfall.
▪️Hike into the canyon to reach the bottom of the waterfall. The path down is right next to the viewing platform. It takes about 10-15 minutes to walk into the canyon, and then another 5 minutes to walk through the canyon to reach the waterfall. The path down is rough and quite dangerous, not highly recommended.
-
📷Photography tips:
▪️Using a drone can capture the scene of Mount Semeru, the highest active volcano in Java, and Sewu Waterfall in one frame. Due to the dense surrounding jungle, be sure to pay attention to the safety of drone takeoff and landing.
▪️Aerial shots with a drone at noon can even capture the magical sight of the waterfall flow and double rainbows in one frame under the refraction of sunlight.
-
🚗How to get there:
▪️It is recommended to stay in a hotel in Malang city and drive about 2 hours to Sewu Waterfall.
▪️Due to a sudden heavy rain in mid-July 2023 causing a mudslide, the essential bridge from Malang to Sewu Waterfall was destroyed and has not yet been repaired. The road is impassable, so you need to take a local motorcycle to cross the broken bridge to reach the Sewu Waterfall viewing platform.
▪️Take a local motorcycle from the motorcycle point for about 20 minutes to the entrance of the scenic area, then walk for 10 minutes to reach the Sewu Waterfall viewing platform.
-
🎫Viewing platform ticket: 20k IDR (approximately 10 RMB)
🎫Waterfall bottom ticket: 10k IDR (approximately 5 RMB)
⏰Opening hours: 7:00-17:00
📣Recommended visit duration: Viewing platform 0.5-1h, hiking to the bottom of the waterfall 2-3h
Captivating Moments at Kapas Biru Waterfall
Cool breeze and the scent of nature welcomed us as we entered the realm of Kapas Biru Waterfall. Situated far from the city's hustle, this waterfall is a natural secret waiting to be unveiled. Clear springs meandered through rocky riverbeds, forming a breathtaking sight.
We approached the waterfall, and with each step, the sound of splashing water grew deeper. The rush of the waterfall shattered the forest's tranquility, creating a soothing symphony of nature. Under the sunlight, the falling water reflected light, creating a glistening cascade like crystal dew, offering a view from another world.
As we reached the waterfall's pool, we couldn't resist immersing ourselves in the cool water. Its chill refreshed us, kindling the spirit of adventure within. There, we spent time splashing, laughing, and feeling the wonders of the natural surroundings.

TUMPAK SEWU WATERFALL : LUMAJANG
Talking about natural beauty, Lumajang Regency is the place to be. In addition to having a country above the clouds, Lumajang Regency also has natural waterfalls whose beauty is not inferior to Niagara Falls in America. Tumpak Sewu Waterfall is the name. The popularity of Tumpak Sewu Waterfall as Niagara in East Java is not without reason. The wide flow of this waterfall reminds people of Niagara Waterfall. Spectacular Tumpak Sewu Waterfall
People often go to Tumpak Sewu, and just see The Waterfall from View Point at abobe.
Don’t stay at the overlook too long, because you still have to see the waterfall from below! The best lighting for this is early in the morning before the sun gets high, otherwise taking the right photos can be more of a challenge.
Head down the path for about 20 minutes to reach the bottom of the ravine. The path is mostly bamboo steps with bamboo railings, and it’s a little sketchy in spots, but nothing too terrible. Just proceed carefully.
Once you reach the bottom of the ravine, you’re only a 5-10 minute walk away from the main event. The towering walls on either side of the ravine let you know how tiny you are, and how epic things are about to get.
There’s one shallow stream to cross, with a small bridge covering part of it. Cross the bridge, round the corner, and prepare to have your mind blown by the epic sight! This is when the scale hits you for the first time and you can’t help but feel ant-like.
There are a lot of good photo spots next to the waterfall, but be aware that the rocks are very slippery and any electronics you bring within 100 yards of the falls WILL get soaked.
I’d recommend bringing a dry bag to keep your camera, drone, or other electronics safe between photo sessions here.
Enjoy and be safe!

Tumpak Sewu Waterfall
Tumpak Sewu Waterfall is arguably Indonesia’s best waterfall. It isn’t the largest, even in East Java, but is definitely the most impressive. From above it looks like the tree of life, from below it is immensely powerful and from all angles, it is quite simply mind-blowing.
Once you reach the canyon you start to get an idea of the scale of the walls. You are an ant within the gorge and you know you are about to witness something incredible. After turning the final corner you will never forget the moment you enter the cauldron at the foot of Tumpak Sewu Waterfall. It is pure magic with more than thirty different waterfalls plummeting down into the cauldron into tiny pools below.

Tumpak Sewu, Asian Niagara Falls
I'm not a fan of waterfall, but Tumpak Sewu took my breath away. Tumpak Sewu is an enormous waterfall that creates a semi-circular curtain of showers against a giant rock face. Tumpak Sewu is generally translated to mean ‘1000 waterfalls’ in the Javanese language and stands at a whopping 120 meters (390 ft)!
The waterfalls are magnificent. Path to the waterfall is a really wonderful experience, but prepare good shoes to walk in the water as there are parts that you need to move in the water. The hike is not that difficult. It’s worth to get close.

Beautiful waterfall. Amazing view, bring gear to get wet though because if you go down you will be sprayed by the huge waterfall. The path to get down is very steep, and takes a long time to descend, then coming back up is a pretty good cardio workout. But the waterfall is worth it, truly amazing. There are also many smaller waterfalls around, some that you walk through too.But beware you might have to pay again to enter the waterfall when you hike down.overall IT ok
Magical Waterfall in West Java, Indonesia.
Visiting Tumpak Sewu in West Java was an unforgettable adventure that left me in awe of nature's beauty. As I hiked toward the waterfall, the sound of rushing water grew louder, heightening my anticipation. When I finally stood before the majestic cascade, I was overwhelmed by its sheer power and elegance, the water plummeting down like a veil of silk. The lush green surroundings added to the enchantment, making me feel like I had stepped into a hidden paradise. I felt a profound sense of tranquility as I soaked in the view, grateful for the moment. This breathtaking spot reminded me of the beauty of exploration and the importance of connecting with nature, an experience I'll treasure forever.

SEWU Waterfall Rapids Climbing: A Blend of Challenge and Beauty
SEWU Waterfall is located in a picturesque natural scenic area, attracting numerous adventure enthusiasts with its rapids climbing. Standing in front of the waterfall, looking up at the rushing water, a surge of courage to take on the challenge arises. 🌊
Wearing professional gear and under the guidance of a professional coach, we began our journey of rapids climbing. The water flow was rapid, and every step required caution. Despite the challenges along the way, the sense of accomplishment was overwhelming when we successfully climbed up and looked back at the path we had taken. 🧗
During the climb, the beauty of SEWU Waterfall was mesmerizing. The natural scenery around the waterfall was like a painting, with lush green trees, birds singing, and flowers blooming. While climbing, we could also enjoy the magnificent view of the waterfall and feel the wonders of nature. 🏞️
Indonesia is not bad, will you come again next time...
I went to Indonesia, Asia during the National Day holiday, and there were really many compatriots. Share some aerial photos~
Shooting location📌:
Komodo Island, Penida Island, Sewu Waterfall, Bromo Volcano🌋, Cliff Road (Uluwatu, Bali)
It is worth noting that it is said that Padar on Komodo Island is not allowed to fly, you can fly on the pink beach🏖️; try not to fly into the smoke at the volcano mouth, sulfides are not good for the line🙀; you can fly freely in other places (mini series).
Tumpak Sewu Waterfall: A natural wonder in East Java, Indonesia.
Hidden in the South Sea District of East Java Province, Indonesia, is a breathtaking natural wonder - Tumpak Sewu Waterfall. This is not just a waterfall, it is a masterpiece of nature, a holy land for adventurers and photographers, and one of the most spectacular waterfalls in Indonesia.
The source of the Tumpak Sewu Waterfall comes from the river valley at the foot of Mount Semeru, the highest peak in Java. The river rushes out after passing through the dense rainforest and finally falls into the deep canyon, forming a moving natural landscape. The waterfall flows from the wide ground into the round valley bottom, with a drop of up to 120 meters. In the process of tilting, it forms hundreds of waterfalls, like thousands of silver snakes rushing down in the lush mountains and forests. This spectacular scene has earned Tumpak Sewu Waterfall the reputation of "thousand-layer waterfall" among locals.
Standing in front of Tumpak Sewu Waterfall, the first thing that comes into view is the cascading and majestic waterfall group. The sun shines through the mist and sprinkles on the waterfall, like a silver ribbon shining in the sun, each ray of light seems to be telling the magical story of nature. The waterfall is surrounded by lush tropical rainforests, and the air is filled with the fresh smell of water vapor and soil. Every deep breath seems to cleanse the soul.
What is even more shocking is that the sound of the waterfall is thunderous, and the icy feeling brought by the water droplets splashing on the face makes people instantly integrate with nature. At that moment, all troubles and noises disappeared, leaving only inner peace and joy. Standing here, you will deeply realize the fragility and strength of life, and the shocking power that nature gives us.
The journey to Tumpak Sewu Waterfall is not easy, the mountain road is steep and slippery, but the scenery along the way is enough to make all efforts worthwhile. To ensure safety, it is recommended to wear wading shoes or sandals and prepare replacement clothes, because you are almost certain to get wet here. At the same time, because the mountain road is dangerous, you need to be especially careful when walking, especially in rainy days, you need to be more vigilant against natural disasters such as landslides and mudslides.
In addition, the tickets for Tumpak Sewu Waterfall are divided into two parts. You can turn right and cross the bridge to watch the circular waterfall, which costs 50,000 Indonesian rupiah; turn left to the cave and the waterfall area where you can swim. If you don’t go to the cave, you only need 10,000 Indonesian rupiah, and if you go to the cave, you need 20,000 Indonesian rupiah. The whole journey takes about 5 hours, so it is recommended to set off early to avoid the peak of the flow of people and get a better photo experience.
Tumpak Sewu Waterfall is not only a moving natural landscape, but also a paradise for adventurers. Here, you can feel the magnificence and mystery of nature, and realize the fragility and strength of life. Whether it is visual impact or spiritual resonance, Tumpak Sewu Waterfall will leave you with unforgettable memories. When you come to East Java, Indonesia, don't miss this wonderful journey of intimate contact with nature.

My visit to Tumpak Sewu Waterfall was an unforgettable adventure that I highly recommend to anyone visiting East Java, Indonesia.
The sheer beauty and grandeur of Tumpak Sewu Waterfall left me in awe. The waterfall, often dubbed the "Niagara of Indonesia," cascades down in a mesmerizing curtain, creating a breathtaking scene. The lush green surroundings and the mist from the waterfall made the entire experience surreal and magical.
Overall, Tumpak Sewu Waterfall is a must-visit destination for nature lovers and adventure seekers.
I seem to have captured the essence of 'The Shawshank Redemption' at Sewu Waterfall | Life cannot confine me
| Life cannot confine me. In the 'Shawshank' moment of freedom at Sewu Waterfall
In the embrace of Sewu Waterfall, I felt as if I had traveled through time and resonated with Andy from 'The Shawshank Redemption'—life, after all, is a cage that cannot imprison me. My freedom, like the waterfall, rushes endlessly and reigns supreme.
🌊
When I stood in front of the waterfall, raising my arms, at that moment, I felt like the protagonist of the movie, experiencing the joy of regaining freedom. The water droplets gently brushed my face like fine threads, bringing an unprecedented freshness and comfort, as if even my soul was cleansed to purity.
📸
But please don't be easily deceived by these photos; behind them are my tireless efforts, trekking through mountains and rivers, and even getting soaked. However, it was all worth it because Sewu Waterfall, one of Indonesia's most spectacular and pristine waterfalls, rewarded me with its breathtaking beauty for all my efforts.
👫
What surprised me even more was that along the way, Indonesian friends came up to take pictures with me, and some even praised us as looking like Blackpink members. This sudden 'star treatment' made me feel both surprised and proud. Every few minutes, someone would ask if they could take a photo, and this enthusiasm and friendliness made the trip even more unforgettable.
📝
Travel Tips:
Streamline your luggage: The whole trip takes only 2-3 hours, so try to minimize what you carry, especially avoiding non-waterproof bags to prevent items from getting wet.
The importance of a guide: A reliable guide can make your journey smoother. They are not only familiar with the routes but can also capture the most beautiful moments for you, making every photo a masterpiece.
Footwear choice: While stream shoes are good, they are not necessary. A pair of non-slip shoes, such as Vans or hiking boots, can also handle the slippery challenges of the waterfall. There are also rental services at the foot of the mountain for your convenience.
Energy management: Although descending is relatively easy, you still need to conserve energy when climbing up and stay safe. The entire journey is somewhat challenging, but when you stand in front of the waterfall, all your efforts will turn into the most beautiful scenery.

Tumpak Sewu Waterfall, Indonesia

Nature's Masterpiece: Tumpak Sewu Waterfalls
#indonesiatrip
Tumpak Sewu Waterfalls exceeded my expectations in every way! The moment I saw the waterfalls, I was awestruck by its grandeur and beauty. The waterfall is like a giant staircase of water, cascading down the rocky cliffside. I loved exploring the area, taking in the sights and sounds of the lush green surroundings. The trek to the top of the waterfall was challenging, but the views from the top were breathtaking! I could see the waterfall from a completely different perspective, and it was truly mesmerizing.
The locals were friendly and welcoming, and the food was delicious. Overall, Tumpak Sewu Waterfalls is a must-visit destination for anyone who loves nature, adventure, and beauty. Don't miss it!
Indonesia's another hidden paradise, the Blue Cotton Waterfall
Tips: Everyone must bring good anti-slip stream trekking shoes!
Instead of visiting the Sewu Waterfall in Indonesia, go directly to the Blue Cotton Waterfall! The Sewu Waterfall, p2 is already the most beautiful scenery there.
There's no need to pursue the must-visit spots where you can take great photos right away. It's not necessary to go down and 'get drenched'.
The whole process is very steep, with simple iron railings that are shaky, and some of the iron stepping boards are loose.
You will also pass a place where the water flows very fast. Even knee-high rain boot covers can't keep the water out. You must wear stream trekking shoes.
Once you get down, your phone and eyes are all water, you can't see clearly, remember to buy a waterproof phone case.
I personally think it's a rather comfortable place although it's just a photo spot promoting a relaxed and easy-going vibe for taking pictures.
Our guide took us there without the need to pay extra for chairs.

📌Tips:
1⃣️Shoes👟: You must wear river tracing shoes‼️ They are anti-slip and can step on water, don't wear slippers, it's too dangerous!
2⃣️Clothes👔: It is recommended to wear quick-drying sportswear, if you are afraid of sunburn, you can wear a jacket, the ultraviolet rays are quite strong, you can take it off for photos (the clothes are easy to get dirty, the kind that can't be washed off, or torn, don't wear expensive ones😂)
3⃣️Equipment: Sun hat or fisherman hat, sunglasses, trekking poles, sports gloves, sun protection mask, backpack, CCD camera📷
Difficulty:🌟🌟🌟🌟
Route✏️:
Go straight to the bottom of the waterfall➡️Waterfall internet celebrity photo spot➡️Natural stream pool (can swim)➡️Small water curtain pool➡️Return
Cost💰:
I joined a group for four days and three nights, the whole journey was arranged by the driver and guide clearly, and it includes the entrance ticket🎫
Local customs👨🏽🦱:
The locals I met were really great, I think everyone is very enthusiastic❤️🔥 They lead you sincerely, and they are very patient, they welcome us very much👏, they are all too simple and kind😘
(The guide knows where to take good photos, speaks English and can lead, my guide will help me take photos, and is very enthusiastic❤️🔥, not perfunctory at all, so we will give a little tip at the end, everyone still needs to pay more attention to the dangerous places on the edge of the stone⚠️
There are some stairs that are quite steep and vertical when going down, but there are basically railings, just hold on and walk slowly, don't rush, I personally think it's okay to go down, it's a bit tiring to come up)
The Indonesian Niagra Falls
Magnificent God’s creation. Many local guide at the entrance and they don’t over charged. Only IDR200k. Support them as they will assist even on how and where are the good spots to take photo and videos. They don’t rush you and even offer Pocari drink to us without any fees. Love all these locals who wishes to make a decent money. We gave them IDR300k in total as a small token of appreciation. #awesomepic #couplestrip

Magical Waterfall in Indonesia
I travel to Malang for Bromo trip on June 2023. Then after finished the Bromo trip, Me and My Friends were going to have trekking at Tumpak Sewu, Lumajang, Malang, Indonesia. I doubt myself because the Trek was kinda hard. I think I cannot afford that Trek. But, Malang trip was my once in a lifetime, I think I don’t want to missed it. So I challenge myself, turns out after 3 hours trekking down to the waterfall, I feel like “wow” and freezing for the moments. The waterfall was so beautiful, wonderful and magical! Me and My Friends was there for 1-2 hours and then going back to basecamp within 2 hours. I don’t know why was we heading back to basecamp was so easy instead of we going down to the waterfall. The trip was so amazing, you guys have to try trekking to Tumpak Sewu once in a lifetime! #tumpaksewuwaterfall #tumpaksewu
Surabaya, Indonesia, Lonely Planet, the world has turned two more pages
The combination of twin volcanoes and waterfall can be said to be the hot combination of Indonesian tourism this year. Standing on the 'Lonely Planet', listening to the roar from the earth's core, at this moment the world is not in the book, but under the feet.
Sharing some travel tips for Surabaya, hope to help your travel plan.
D1 Arrive in Surabaya → Stay at the foot of Boromo Volcano
D2 Get up at 3 o'clock to watch the sunrise of Boromo → Go to the mouth of Bromo Volcano, listen to the roar from the earth's core
D3 Sewu Waterfall (It's really not recommended to put Bromo and Sewu in one day, so there is no time to go to the mouth of Bromo Volcano, and it is likely to rain in the afternoon during the rainy season in Indonesia, and the waterfall will not go down) → Go to Ijen Volcano
D4 Get up at 0 o'clock to climb Ijen! Everything is for the blue fire!!
The journey in Surabaya can be said to be a journey of scenery, every day is a challenge, the body is in practice, but the eyes are in heaven.
