It was founded by Grand Duke Vladislav I of Bohemia in 920. The Benedictine Monastery of St. George was added in 973. The Basilica is currently used as a concert hall. The architectural style combines Gothic, Romanesque and Baroque styles. The Basilica was rebuilt after a fire in 1142. The Baroque facade of the Basilica of St. George was built in the late 17th century. The decorative color blocks on the exterior tend to be brick red, which is very special under the sun. There are many colorful murals inside the Basilica, and you can also see the arched windows around it. However, due to the building materials (limestone brick walls), the temperature inside the Basilica is relatively low. It is recommended to bring a coat when visiting.
