Fulfilling Francesinha in Porto

Francesinha is the signature dish originated from Porto and is a must try if you are in town. It consists of two slices of bread, with beef steak, cured ham, and cheese in between, then top with a sumptuous beer and cheese sauce. The portion is actually quite big, so we ordered one to be shared, and adding the crispy onion ring which is beautifully presented like a flower! As suggested by the locals, it is best to be enjoyed with the local beer - Super Bock. Francesinha is served in many restaurants in Porto and the one that we visited - Bassaio Aliado- is said to be one of the best in town. Do give it a try! #urbanexplorer #foodie #portugal #porto

Porto

Portugal is definitely one of the countries not to be missed in Europe. There are plenty of things to do and see, plus fresh and delicious cuisines to enjoy. On top of that, prices are relatively cheap compared to other countries in Europe. My first stop was the city of Porto- the second largest in Portugal. Located by the mouth of the Douro River in the northern part of the country, Porto is nearly 900 years old, and the city center was declared a World Heritage Site in 1996 by UNESCO . One of the most impressive structures in Porto is definitely the Dom Luis I bridge, completed in 1886. It has two levels - the top for light rail and pedestrians, while the lower level for cars and pedestrians. The view from the top of the bridge is spectacular - and windy. At sunset, take a walk along the river. There are plenty of restaurants on the river side to have a drink, and enjoy the view. Unfortunately I visited on a rainy day, but now I have a reason to go back. #urbanexplorer #portugal #porto #worldheritage #duoro #3days2nights
