The fact that the entire city remains as ruins was very interesting as it gave us an insight into life at the time. We asked a local archaeological guide for a 2.5 hour course and walked around while he explained things to us, but the site is so vast that we couldn't see it all! The couple we went with had seen a movie called Pompeii and said that the cityscape and the guide's story linked, so watching it might give you a new way to enjoy the site. There is almost no shade in the ruins, so we don't recommend going in the middle of summer! It's best to go in the spring or fall, when it's cooler.
