Wat Sri Chum, worship the "standing Buddha"

#VisitSecondaryCities 🙏Wat Sri Chum is the oldest temple in Phrae Province. It was built in 1322, before the establishment of Phrae City. 🌄The area where Wat Sri Chum is located was probably originally a teak forest that was cool and fertile. There were 5 hermits who came to practice asceticism and use their knowledge of herbal medicine to treat sick villagers. 🏫 Later, the city developed. Therefore, this area was not suitable for meditation and prayer. Therefore, they moved to a new place. 🏰 Later, Khun Luang Phon, the ruler of Phrae, built a temple and a pagoda at this place. He named it "Wat Rishi Chum". It is a very beautiful temple. The pagoda is covered with gold and is grand. The people live in peace and happiness. Later, there was a war with Burma. Therefore, the temple was abandoned. 🛕According to historical evidence, in 1322, the Viceroy of Sukhothai came to build the Cho Phrae Pagoda (Phra That Cho Hae). 🌄While staying at the palace of the king He saw the location to the west of the palace where there were the remains of an old pagoda, a shady place, suitable for building a Buddhist temple for the monks to practice Vipassana. 🏕 Therefore, he collaborated with the governor of Phrae to renovate the temple in the style of Sukhothai temples. He renovated the pagoda, built a standing Buddha image, the front wall of the temple, and sculpted a statue of a hermit practicing asceticism in front of the entrance door, using skilled craftsmen from Pang Kham or Chiang Saen, and named it "Wat Si Chum". 🙏 Later, the rulers of Sukhothai and Chiang Saen brought bronze Buddha images to offer, including a bronze Buddha image from the Sukhothai and Lanna periods, in the Mara-Vijaya posture, and a bronze Buddha image from the Chiang Saen period, in the Mara-Vijaya posture. 🙏 Currently, inside the temple is the enshrined Buddha image in the standing posture, Sukhothai art mixed with local art. The villagers call it "Phra Chao Yuan", which is the tallest standing Buddha image in the temple in Phrae Province. It is a sacred Buddha image that is highly respected and revered by the people of Phrae. The standing Buddha was restored in 1900. 🛕 Inside the temple, there is a chedi in the Lanna style, a castle shape, a bell-shaped top, a recessed base, 5 wa wide on each side. On top, there is a niche with a Buddha image. It was registered as an antique in 2005. 💥 Wat Sri Chum: Charoen Mueang Road, Nai Wiang Subdistrict, Mueang Phrae District, Phrae Province 🌐 Location: https://maps.app.goo.gl/fjJN73E8FwmMyWta8 🕢 Opening - closing hours: 07.30 - 18.00 #Phrae #VisitPhrae #PhraeAttractions
