Temple No. 81, Wat Mai Chaiwichit, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya

Wat Mai Chaiyawichit is located in the Ayutthaya Historical Park, on the northern side of the island of Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, along the Lop Buri River. It used to be an area on the outskirts of the city, meaning it was the area between the Royal Palace and the Lop Buri River. There was an ancient road paved with bricks called "Thanon Pratu Din", which ran from Fort Pak Tho parallel to the palace wall to the watercourse of Tha Wasukri, which was the royal palace's residence. Therefore, the construction of Wat Mai Chaiyawichit was built over the ancient road and some of the temple walls were built over the walls of the Royal Palace. "Chaiyawichit" was the royal title of the governor of the old capital in the early Rattanakosin period. When King Rama I was crowned, he elevated the old capital to a fourth-tier city. His Majesty appointed Mr. Bunnak of Ban Mae La as the first governor of the old capital, with the title of "Chao Phraya" and the royal title of "Chaiyawichit Sitsongkhram".
