Wat Na Phra Meru, Ayutthaya

It is the only temple in Ayutthaya that was not destroyed by the Burmese and still has the most complete Ayutthaya architecture in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province. Its original name was “Wat Phra Meru Ratchikaram”. The location of this temple was probably originally a place for building a royal crematorium for the royal cremation of a king in the early Ayutthaya period. Later, a temple was built. The principal Buddha image in the ordination hall was built at the end of the Ayutthaya period. It is a bronze Buddha image in the Mara-Vijaya attitude, dressed in royal attire. It is called “Phra Phutthanimitwichitmaramoli Si Sanphet Borommatrailokanat” and is considered the largest Buddha image in the Ayutthaya period that exists today.
