Phra Mongkhon Bophit Temple, Ayutthaya Province 🙏This is an old temple within the city walls that has been well restored. Inside the temple is Phra Mongkhon Bophit, a bronze Buddha statue in the Mara-Vijaya posture, 9.55 meters wide and 12.45 meters high. It is considered one of the largest Buddha statues in Thailand. It was damaged since the second fall of Ayutthaya, but has been restored with bronze and covered with gold today. 🙏There is no clear evidence of when it was built. During the reign of King Sua, a thunderbolt fell on the top of the Phra Mongkhon Bophit pavilion, causing a fire, damaging the upper part of Phra Mongkhon Bophit. Therefore, His Majesty ordered its renovation. Later, during the reign of King Borommakot, during the second fall of Ayutthaya, Phra Mongkhon Bophit Temple was burned by the enemy. The crown and right arm of Phra Mongkhon Bophit were broken.
