Wat Yai Chaimongkol

This is the location where 'Journey to the West' and 'Lost in Thailand' were filmed. In Thai, it means 'Victorious and Auspicious', it was built by Ramathibodi I, the founder of the Ayutthaya Kingdom, in 1357 AD, and is one of the oldest temples in Thailand. The temple is most famous for its reclining Buddha and pagoda, next to which is a large group of Buddha statues. If you observe carefully, you can find that the Buddha's head and body are not sculpted from the same era. This is because when the post road was originally built, in order to covet convenience, they indiscriminately cut down the Buddha's body to fill the road for construction, which is quite a wonder.
