Art, History, Legacy: A Cultural Tour of Cambodia’s National Museum

This museum in Phnom Penh showcases an impressive collection of Khmer art and artifacts. We can get a deep dive into the country’s rich and longstanding culture and history. Getting There - Hired a day tour with local tour guide and this was one of the highlights of the day. Highlights - There was a local museum guide in addition to my local tour guide to help is fully appreciate Cambodia's history and culture through the artefacts in the museum. We can see that religion played an important part in ancient time Cambodia through all the different religious sculptures. The museum building itself has a very unique architecture as well with beautiful roofs. #localtourguides #history #phnompenh #cambodia #100waysoftravel

It’s pointless visiting this museum if you don’t take an audio guide. Sure lots of exhibits have brief descriptions but you get so much more info with guide, instead of just walking around not knowing what you’re looking at. Lots of carvings/statues/ Buddha etc, but also some interesting artifacts....sadly some with unknown provenance. Spend a couple of hours here, they have a small cafe and lovely gardens too.
