Wat Nang Phaya, Phitsanulok Province

Wat Nang Phaya in Phitsanulok is located in the same area as Wat Phra Sri Rattana Mahathat or ‘Wat Yai’ and Wat Ratchaburana. It is the source of the discovery of an important amulet, “Phra Nang Phaya”, one of the exquisite Benjaphakee amulets. Although it is an ancient temple that is not very large, but when you know its history, it is considered an important temple in history. Because… the name “Wat Nang Phaya” is assumed to come from the name of Phra Wisutthikastri, the chief consort of Phra Maha Thammaracha and the mother of Phra Suphan Kanlaya, Somdet Phra Naresuan the Great, and Somdet Phra Ekathotsarot. There is evidence that she established this temple while she was the mayor of Songkhwae during the renovation of Wat Ratchaburana around 2090-2100 B.E. and created “Phra Nang Phaya” and placed it in the pagoda according to ancient beliefs. Later, the temple was abandoned for a long time due to war. Until the excavation of “Phra Nang Phaya”, Wat Nang Phaya became famous again.
