Wat Donthat, pay respect to the ashes of Luang Pu Sao

Wat Donthat is located on an island in the middle of the Mun River in Tambon Sai Mun, Amphoe Phibun Mangsahan, Ubon Ratchathani Province. It is a sacred place of historical and spiritual significance related to Luang Pu Sao Kantasilo, the great master of the meditation tradition and teacher of Luang Pu Man Phurithatto.  History Wat Donthat was founded in 1937 by Luang Pu Sao Kantasilo and Phra Ajahn Dee Channo, who came to set up a tent on this island because they saw it as a peaceful place suitable for practicing Dhamma. During 1937–1940, Luang Pu Sao resided at Wat Donthat occasionally. In 1941, he resided here before passing away in Champasak, Laos.  Important places in the temple • Reclining Buddha (Sleeping Buddha): Built by Luang Pu Sao and Luang Pu Dee He is the temple's resident monk who is respected by the public.  • Luang Pu Sao Kantasilo's Chedi: Built to enshrine Luang Pu Sao's ashes, inside is a museum displaying his history and ashes.  • Luang Pu Sao's old hut: A wooden hut where he used to reside, the room is 2.50 x 4.00 meters, raised 1.20 meters high.  • Meditation path and stone platform: A place where Luang Pu Sao used to practice Dhamma.
