Wat Mahathat @Phetchaburi

#NearBangkokTourism Wat Mahathat Worawihan is located in Mueang District, Phetchaburi Province. It is a temple of historical, artistic and archaeological significance. It has an important ancient site, the five-spired white prang, which is beautifully unique and has been a part of Phetchaburi for a long time. Inside the royal chapel, there are beautiful murals and an important Buddha image, Luang Pho Saksit of Wat Mahathat. There is no clear evidence of when this temple was built, but some people assume that it was built during the Dvaravati - Sukhothai periods, approximately 800 - 1,000 years ago, because many remains of Dvaravati bricks were excavated. Some people say that Wat Mahathat Worawihan was once a prosperous temple and a royal monastery. Later, it deteriorated until the reign of King Rama VI, when it received royal approval to be elevated to the status of a royal monastery in 1916. #Worship #ThaiTemple
