The Go Global Series: North America – United States – Yellowstone National Park

Yellowstone National Park is managed by the U.S. National Park Service. On March 1, 1872, it was officially named a national park to protect wildlife and natural resources, and in 1978, it was listed as a World Natural Heritage Site on the "World Heritage List." It is the first national park in the world. Figures 1–4: The Grand Prismatic Spring is the largest hot spring in the United States and the third largest in the world. The temperature of the groundwater is approx. 71°C. The Grand Prismatic Spring is an outstanding representative of Yellowstone's hot springs. It is more than 100m in diameter and has different colors from the center to the outside, such as blue, green, yellow, orange, and red. It is the largest and most beautiful landscape. There are many hot springs, lakeside hot springs, and lake hot springs, and the lake hot springs are the characteristics here. The reason why this place is called "West Thumb" is that Yellowstone Lake has formed a thumb-shaped lake on its west side, hence the name. Figures 15–20: Norris Geyser Basin is the hottest and most unstable series of geysers in Yellowstone Park. The world's largest geyser, Steamboat Geyser, is also located in this area. It has been dormant for a long time and erupts only once in a long time (the last eruption was in 2008). It once created a record eruption height of 380 feet. The colors of the geysers in this area are also quite rich, with crystal clear blue-green, and soft, milk-like blue-white.
