Wat Pa Daed, Chiang Mai

Wat Pa Daet or originally Wat Don Kaew, was named Wat Don Kaew because in the past, the area was a high hill with many pikun trees or Dok Kaew trees. Originally, the temple was a chapel for prisoners to listen to the last sermon before their execution. During the reign of King Mangrai, Wiang Kum Kam was the capital of Lanna. As time passed, the temple was rebuilt in 1802 and its name was changed to Wat Pa Daet because there was a dense forest in the temple area. In the evening, barn owls would chirp loudly.
