Chasing the Aurora: A Cozy Stay at Grand Arctic Resort

I stayed at Grand Arctic Resort for one night to catch the Northern Lights, and it was a great location for Aurora hunting. The area has minimal light pollution, making it an excellent spot to witness the magical display. Thankfully, I managed to see the Northern Lights during my stay, which was an unforgettable experience. The hotel offers a sauna and jacuzzi, which need to be reserved in advance—perfect for unwinding after a cold night outdoors. My room was cozy and comfortable, ideal for a relaxing stay. I had a breakfast package, and the food was good—a decent selection to start the day. For dinner, the hotel serves a winter set meal, where you don’t get to choose the dish as it changes daily. The main course I had was grilled pork, which was quite nice and fitting for a warm meal after a cold day outside. One thing to note is that most shops close around 5 PM, and many food places shut by 6 or 7 PM, so it’s best to have an early dinner or check the hotel’s restaurant hours in advance. If you need any essentials or snacks, there’s a Coop supermarket that stays open until 10 PM, about a 10-minute walk from the hotel (or a quick drive if you have a car). Overall, it was a good stay, and I’d recommend it for anyone looking for a comfortable base to chase the Aurora from the backyard while enjoying some Arctic relaxation. #Överkalix #överkalix
