The desert area if Ouarzazate, situated just south of the Atlas High Mountains, is so popular as a movie production site that you can find an abandoned gladiator arena built there by Hollywood itself. It’s no surprise that Ouarzazate is nicknamed “Morocco’s Hollywood.” You’ll also find cities of brown mud homes and kasbahs, surrounded by oases of green palms, with a giant river gorge cutting through the region. It’s a great area to pick up souvenirs, go hiking, and step foot on some of Morocco’s most ancient sites of civilization.
