Eugenisburg

Eugenisburg (Chateau du Haut-Knigsbourg), also known as the King's Castle, is located in Orschwiller, Alsace, France. The castle was originally built in the mid-12th century and was destroyed during the Thirty Years' War in the 17th century. It was later restored in the early 20th century. The castle is famous for its majestic appearance and typical royal decorations. It was built by German Emperor Wilhelm II as a royal castle to permanently rule Alsace and Lorraine. However, after Germany's defeat in World War I, the castle was returned to France. The castle is known for its pink sandstone appearance, entirely constructed from pink sandstone, making it very striking. Situated on the Vosges Mountains, it holds significant strategic importance. Today, it has become a popular tourist attraction where visitors can overlook the surrounding scenery and experience the medieval atmosphere.
