New Caledonia is a French overseas territory, an island that combines French romance and South Pacific style. Noumea is the capital and main port of New Caledonia, with lagoons and reefs outside the port as barriers, and deep waters and calm winds inside. The capital Noumea has museums, art galleries, theaters, Haagen Castle, and city museums, all of which are buildings from the French colonial period, exuding a French romantic lifestyle everywhere. The total area of the lagoon around New Caledonia Island is 24,000 square kilometers, making it one of the largest lagoons in the world. It is located in the same Coral Sea as the Great Barrier Reef on the opposite coast of Australia. The lagoon and the surrounding New Caledonia Barrier Reef are listed as World Heritage Sites by UNESCO and are one of the three largest coral reef ecosystems in the world. The natural scenery of the lagoon is extremely beautiful, with different forms of coral reef stones in the lake, which concentrate the most diverse coral reefs in the world.
