The Splendid Kanas

Kanas is located in the Altay region in northern Xinjiang, where towering snow peaks, green slopes, dark forests, and shimmering lakes combine to create a landscape known as 'a fairyland on earth, a mysterious garden'. 'Kanas' is a Mongolian word meaning 'a beautiful and mysterious lake'. Kanas Lake is fed by glacial meltwater and local precipitation, with a surface elevation of 1374 meters, an area of about 46 square kilometers, and a depth of 180 meters, making it an inland freshwater lake. The Kanas scenic area encompasses a variety of natural landscapes such as mountains, rivers, forests, lakes, and grasslands, as well as historical and cultural relics like the assembly platform of Genghis Khan's westward expedition army, ancient rock paintings, and the unique folk customs of the Mongolian Tuvan people, including wooden house villages, small bridges over flowing water, curling smoke from chimneys, and the fragrance of milk tea. The color of Kanas Lake changes with the seasons, from azure to emerald green; sometimes it is calm, and other times it ripples gently, as if playing a symphony in harmony with the distant snow-capped mountains and the nearby woods, presenting a myriad of forms. Every morning, Fairy Bay is shrouded in a misty veil, with clouds swirling around, resembling a heavenly realm. Wolong Bay looks like a winged dragon spreading its wings, with dense forests, blooming flowers, lush green grass, and splashing pearls. Moon Bay is shaped like a moon, glittering and shimmering.
