It is located near the Qianzhangyan Waterfall on Xuedou Mountain, and is also known as the Waterfall Temple. During the Northern Song Dynasty, Emperor Renzong of Song believed that Xuedou Mountain was the fairy mountain he had dreamed of, so he named Xuedou Mountain the "Famous Mountain in a Dream" and Xuedou Temple the "Xuedou Zisheng Zen Temple." It is also the ashram of Maitreya Buddha and one of the five major Buddhist mountains in China. The first place where General Zhang Xueliang was imprisoned is also nearby.
