🗽🗽The Statue of Liberty is a large neoclassical bronze sculpture in the shape of a toga-clad goddess, representing Libertas or the Roman goddess. Her right arm holds a torch above her head and her left arm holds a tablet with the Roman numerals "JULY IV MDCCLXXVI" (July 4, 1776), the date of the United States' declaration of independence. There is also a broken chain at the feet of the statue, symbolizing independence. It was a gift from the French to the people of the United States in 1885 in appreciation of the Americans' bravery in fighting the United Kingdom and finally being able to declare independence as an independent nation.
