Ingenuity of human achievement: Hoover Dam

Located about 1 hour drive south east of Las Vegas is Hoover Dam. Security is tight at Hoover Dam as there are security checkpoints when you enter the area and you are required to stop your vehicle for security checks. The moment I saw this colossal structure, I was captivated by its engineering marvel. We parked the car at the carpark and got off to explore the dam. Walking along the dam and looking down its sides, I had trouble fathoming the enormity of the concrete walls. It’s a terribly high drop to the waters below and the ability of these concrete walls to hold back the entire expanse of Lake Mead is truly mind boggling.
