How did ancient Egyptians stack 2.3 million stone blocks into this colossal structure over 4,000 years ago? Riding a carriage to the viewpoint, nine pyramids align in the distance, their silhouettes whispering pharaonic secrets in the wind. The afternoon visit to the Grand Egyptian Museum reveals ancient civilization cradled within modern architecture's clean lines. Though exhibits are still limited, the statues and murals in glass cases showcase greater refinement than the old museum. Sadly, the souvenir shop offerings were underwhelming—just a few quick picks before moving on. Local taxi rides deliver adrenaline-pumping thrills as drivers weave through traffic, occasionally going against the flow, making hearts race to the rhythm of street vendors' calls. At dusk, the pyramids gilded by sunset suddenly illuminate the meaning of "the more you see the world, the more you love your homeland"—no matter how far you roam, that heartfelt tether remains clear. Coinciding with Lunar New Year's Eve, even our "special forces" sprint between sights couldn't dim our passion for these wonders. Next stop: Abu Simbel and the Old Cataract Hotel—anticipation overflowing! [Date: Day 4 of the Journey] Departing at 4:30 AM for a 7-hour round trip, all to witness Abu Simbel—Ramses II's megalithic ambition (jokingly called "Egypt's Qianlong Emperor") exceeds imagination. Four 20-meter-tall Ramses colossi gaze down upon mortals outside the temple, while wall reliefs chronicle his military glory, though the legendary "Rose Oath" tenderness is absent. Yet when dawn light pierces the canyon to illuminate the inner sanctum's deities, that sacred moment makes you forget his arrogance. Returning to check into the Old Cataract Hotel feels like stepping into an Agatha Christie novel. Wooden spiral staircases, vintage chandeliers, and staff's endearingly broken Chinese "Happy New Year" warm this foreign New Year's Eve instantly. The hotel prepared a special reunion dinner for Chinese guests. At the lucky draw wall, an Egyptian hostess' handwritten red envelope gifted me the key to Agatha's former room! With Nile sunsets and evening breezes, this New Year's Eve became dreamlike perfection. The Old Cataract's service and nostalgia deserve full marks—sharing the same view as my literary idol might be the year's finest gift.
