Khufu Pyramid Travel Guide

The Khufu Pyramid is the largest pyramid in the world and a symbol of ancient Egyptian civilization. Tickets and Opening Hours • Giza Pyramid Scenic Area Ticket: EGP 80 (about CNY 29), half price with an international student ID; a separate ticket is required to visit the interior of the Khufu Pyramid, priced at EGP 200. • Ticketing Hours: 8:00–16:00. • Opening Hours: Open all year round, Monday, Wednesday to Sunday 08:00–16:30; Tuesday 08:00–15:30. Transportation • Taxi: You can take a taxi from downtown Cairo directly to the Giza Scenic Area. • Bus: Bus 355 and some minibuses behind the Egyptian Museum can also reach the area. Tour Route • Classic Route: After entering the scenic area, walk along the right-hand side of the worship path towards the Khafre Pyramid, passing the Sphinx along the way, and then reach the Khufu Pyramid. • Sphinx: After entering the scenic area, walk to the right, and the first thing you will see is the Sphinx. • Nine Pyramids in a Line: Walk south to the highest point, which takes about 20 minutes in the desert. Notes • Climbing: Climbing the exterior of the Khufu Pyramid is generally prohibited, but if you don't use the stairs and climb the first few layers, the police usually won't stop you. • Interior Visit: The interior passage is narrow, steep, and poorly ventilated, and the interior is mostly empty, so it is not recommended for those with weak bodies. • Sun Protection and Hydration: The pyramids are located in the desert, and the sun is scorching during the day, so it is recommended to wear breathable, windproof clothing such as long sleeves and pants, pay attention to skincare, and bring your own drinking water. • Camel Riding: Many people around the pyramids will ask if you want to ride a camel. You can negotiate the price with them, but be sure to ask if tips and other details are included. Nearby Food • Traditional Egyptian Food: Includes 'koshari' (a mix of rice, lentils, and pasta), 'ful medames' (fava bean stew), and 'ta'ameya' (fava bean falafel). Other Tips • Visa: Egypt offers a visa on arrival, which costs USD 50 upon arrival, so remember to prepare cash. • Safety: Be cautious of locals who try to rob foreign tourists by selling things, taking pictures for you, and asking for money. • Light Show: The pyramids have a light show at night, which can be viewed for free from hotels opposite the pyramids, so it is not recommended to pay for it.
