It began in the Nara period, when the capital was moved from Asuka to Heijo-kyo... The grounds are home to about 3,000 lanterns that were donated in the Heian period, and many of them are more than 300 years old. It is said that the custom of lining lanterns along the approach to shrines and temples began here. The stone lanterns lining the approach to the shrine and the hanging lanterns in the precincts were beautiful. Located in the center of the Western Corridor, it is currently the gate used by priests, but was once called the Sojomon Gate, through which monks from Kofuku-ji Temple entered. The weeping cherry trees next to the Western Corridor were beautiful, and everyone was taking photos of them. Kasuga Taisha Shrine has a corridor surrounding the main shrine building, and the many lanterns hanging from the vermilion-painted corridor were beautiful.
