It is a traditional festival with a history of over a hundred years, aimed at praying for a good harvest and protection from disasters. 🟧What is the schedule of the Yamayaki Festival? • 12:30 - Before the Wakakusa Yamayaki: Special events are held at the foot of the mountain, including a fire brigade departure ceremony and a deer cracker throwing competition. • 13:00 - 18:00: A grand fire event is held at Kasuga Taisha Shrine, where old New Year's papers are burned in a furnace. • 16:45: Sacred fire ceremony, where the fire is taken from the furnace at Kasuga Taisha Shrine. • 17:05: The sacred fire procession departs from Tobihino and heads to Nogami. • 17:25: The torches are lit near Mizutani Shrine. • 17:40: Nogami Shrine festival, where the sacred fire procession lights the flames at Nogami Shrine. Bonfires are lit at the foot of Wakakusa Mountain during the chanting by Todai-ji and Kofuku-ji temples. • 18:15: Grand fireworks display. • 18:30: The mountain is set ablaze, with the central fire source moved to the front of Wakakusa Mountain. • Viewing spots: The foot of Wakakusa Mountain and Ukigumo Park in Nara Park are great spots to watch the event.
