Nantes has many places to visit as a holiday town, and the Clocher Observatoire de Saint-Martin is the only attraction marked as a "must-see" by Lonely Planet. The history of these churches can be traced back to the 11th century, but the oldest part of the church today dates back to the 14th and 15th century reconstruction. The church was destroyed during the religious wars of the 16th century, leaving only the walls on the sides of the nave and transept, which were reinforced to become the watchtower. The church was rebuilt in 1629, but was destroyed several times afterwards, and most of the church today was built in the 18th century, except for the earliest preserved Gothic structure.
