Nanjing / Gulou Park

This is Gulou Park, a hidden gem in the city center. Predating the Ming Dynasty Imperial Palace, it carries the history of Nanjing for six centuries. Most notably, the ginkgo trees will bloom later; currently, they are still green, and the photos of ginkgo trees against the red walls are truly stunning online… Overall, Gulou Park isn't large. The view from the top of the tower is somewhat obstructed by buildings, but it's a wonderful place for a stroll, a hidden historical site. The Drum Tower was commissioned by Zhu Yuanzhang and served not only as Nanjing's timekeeping center but also for welcoming emperors, receiving imperial edicts, and selecting imperial concubines. A great fire at the end of the Ming Dynasty and the beginning of the Qing Dynasty destroyed the upper level of the Drum Tower, leaving only the platform. When Emperor Kangxi toured the south, he ascended the Drum Tower and left behind the inscription: "Pursue oneself and love the people; uphold public duty and abide by the law." 📍Admission: Free 📍Opening Hours: 08:00-17:00 (Indoor Area)
