Visit Nanjing Linggu Temple and experience its ancient charm.

Nanjing Linggu Temple Scenic Area is located at the foot of the southeast slope of Purple Mountain in Xuanwu District, Nanjing, about 1.5 km east of Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum. It was first built during the reign of Emperor Wu of Liang in the Southern Dynasties (514) and was originally named Kaishan Temple. During the Ming Dynasty, Zhu Yuanzhang gave it the name "Linggu Zen Temple" and declared it "the first Zen forest in the world," making it one of the three major Buddhist temples of the Ming Dynasty. The main buildings include the Fangsheng Pond, the Diamond Hall, the Hall of Heavenly Kings, the Hall of Immeasurable (also known as the Hall of No Beams), the Hall of Five Directions, the Hall of Vairocana, and the Guanyin Pavilion. Behind the temple is the towering Baogong Pagoda. In addition, the temple houses the Xuanzang Memorial Hall, which enshrines a statue of Master Xuanzang. Linggu Temple is not only a place for religious activities but also an important historical and cultural site. In 2006, the Linggu Scenic Area was rated as a national 5A-level tourist attraction. The scenic area also includes famous attractions such as Linggu Pagoda, Songfeng Pavilion, and the Cemetery of the Fallen Soldiers of the National Revolutionary Army, attracting a large number of tourists.
