Nanjing Yuchang Building

The second attraction with a 90-yuan ticket is Yuchang Tower, which is more famously known as the swaying earth building. Yuchang Building was built in the late Yuan Dynasty and early Ming Dynasty. It is a civil structure and a corridor-style round building. This building has four major characteristics: First, it is the oldest and largest earth building currently known. The second is a five-story round building with a kitchen on the ground floor and a total of 22 wells. It is the earth building with the most water wells. Third, a single-story circular ancestral hall is built in the center. In front of the hall, a Yin-Yang Bagua is paved with cobblestones, divided into five grids, representing the five elements of metal, wood, water, fire and earth. The fourth and biggest feature is that the pillars of the earth building are tilted this way and that, with a maximum slope of 15 degrees. However, after more than 700 years of erosion and earthquakes, they still remain the same and have become a living specimen of ancient residential architecture.
