Indra Khil pillar

Nan City Pillar, or as locals call it, Sao Ming or Sao Ming Muang, was built by His Royal Highness Prince Atthawarapanyo, the 57th ruler of Nan. He ordered the current city pillar to be buried on April 15, 1788 at the place where he made his prediction, which was beside an old abandoned temple. Experts assume that this abandoned temple is Wat Huai Khrai in the Sukhothai period. Before that, the Sao Ming Muang was made of large golden teak wood, 60 centimeters in diameter and 3 meters high. The top of the pillar was carved into the shape of a lotus bud. The pillar was buried in the ground without a shrine covering it. #Nan
