Nan City Pillar 🙏🏻🙏🏻

The city pillar of Nan, or as the locals call it, Sao Ming or Sao Ming Mueang, was built by Somdet Chao Fah Atthawara Panyo, the 57th ruler of Nan. He ordered the installation of the current city pillar on April 15, B.E. 2331 at the place he made a prediction, which is next to an old abandoned temple. Those who know this abandoned temple assume that this temple was Wat Huai Khrai in the Sukhothai period. In the past, the city pillar was made of large golden teak wood, 60 centimeters in diameter and 3 meters high, with a carved lotus bud top. The pillar was buried in the ground without a shrine to cover it. Then in B.E. 2506, when Nan experienced a major flood, the Nan River flowed into the city pillar, causing the more than 100-year-old pillar to erode and collapse. Later, Wat Ming Mueang, together with the people of Nan, worked together to reshape the city pillar and carve the top of the pillar to be The four-faced Brahma, whose names are Metta, Karuna, Mudita, and Upekkha.
