Wat Phra That Chae Haeng: Pay respects to the Year of the Rabbit's sacred relic.

🙏 Phra That Chae Haeng is enshrined within Wat Phra That Chae Haeng, a revered sacred site situated on a hill on the eastern bank of the Nan River, in the area that used to be the center of the old Nan city after relocating from Mueang Pua. 🛕 Phra That Chae Haeng was built during the reign of Phaya Kan Muang (the ruler of Nan from 1869-1902 BE) to enshrine the seven Phra Maha Chin Thatu, silver and gold Buddha images, which were bestowed by King Maha Thammaracha Lithai when he helped build Wat Luang Aphai (now Wat Pa Mamuang in Sukhothai) in 1897 BE. 🐇 Phra That Chae Haeng, the zodiac relic for those born in the Year of the Rabbit, is a bell-shaped chedi influenced by the Phra That Hariphunchai chedi. The chedi is covered with gold leaf (a mixture of brass and copper). 🐉 The path to the relic is a Naga staircase. The gable above the entrance to the vihara is adorned with stucco Naga patterns, a distinctive feature of Nan's art. Highlights within the temple include: 🏰 The Ubosot, showcasing Nan's architectural and artistic craftsmanship. 🏰 The Vihara Luang, a large structure with six rooms: three central rooms, two front rooms, and one rear room. The roof slopes down in three tiers on each side, with two tiers in front and one in the back. 🏰 The front and central side doors, with the roof ridge featuring intertwined Naga tails in three tiers, represent exquisite and rare craftsmanship. 🏰 The Reclining Buddha Vihara, located in front of the sacred relic's outer wall, is built along the length of the Buddha image, with the entrance at the rear (south side). 🙏 Phra That Chae Haeng has long been a revered sacred site for the people of Nan.
